Language Today Mini Lesson Ideas**

For a Language Today mini lesson, I would discuss an article that I found and posted on Twitter. The article discusses how our language is changing. After discussing brief points, I would have them read the article. Once they are finished they are to pick a partner and create at least three words. Their words can consist of two words, parts of words put together or a completely new word. Once they have finished picking their words, they have to provide a definition to their words. Then we would come back together as a class and discuss what words and definitions were created.
I would choose this activity because the students are learning and engaging at the same. By having the students create their own words and definitions can give them a feel of how our language is changing. It is not discussed in the article, but if we wanted to take it one step further, we could discuss how words are being added to the Oxford dictionary each year. I believe students could be creative with the words and definitions.
